Real Estate Pre-foreclosures: Are the offers too good to be true?

I was wondering if the advertising that says "$600.00 per month, take over payments, house in pre-foreclosure" for homes that (under normal circumstances) would cost several thousand a month can possibly be for real, or are these scams? They are usually listed under "rentals" and lead to the same webpage w/an identifier number. My husband and I just want to rent at this time, and we keep finding these "come-ons" on the rental sites. Does anyone have any experience w/this?

  1. Generally, YES. Lots of scams. HOwever if you just want to rent, might be OK. Get written lease spelling out everything. Remember though that when a house goes through foreclosure, the existing leases are voided. So find out if it has already been foreclosed, or is still in process. Better to have occupied than vacant property is theory.
