Upcoming Foreclosures

I'm renting a condo in Michigan, but found out it is in foreclosure. Should i continue to pay rent?

The landlord keeps telling me not to worry he is trying to buy it back from the bank, but is unable to show me any paperwork. What should i do concerning the rent, pay, or possibly be evicted.

  1. more than likely if he is not able to settle with the bank, you will have enough time to vacate however, if you feel uncertain, it would be a good idea to get out as soon as you can, or are there terms in your lease that prevents you? if so, I would tell the landlord that under this veil of doubt, you feel uncertain about your residency if he is trying to keep the condo, he needs your rent so your leaving might push the issue to a conclusion
  2. Until he no longer owns the condo, you are still bound by the terms of your lease. Continue to pay the rent. If foreclosure is completed, you have until the end of your lease to vacate, unless the new owner plans to live there in which case you have 90 days to relocate. If you are currently month-to-month, once foreclosure completes you have 90 days to relocate. If the new owner wants to be a landlord, they can lease to you if you want to stay.
  3. YES! You must legally pay the rent or get evicted!! His foreclosure has NOTHING to do with your legal obligation to pay!! If the foreclosure does go through then the new laws requires the bank to let you live out your lease or give you 90 days notice. As soon as the bank takes possession then you pay the rent to them.
