Upcoming Foreclosures

How can I get the addresses to foreclosed properties from the city or bank?

I want to purchase a fixer-upper in Aransas Pass, TX and have no idea where to begin finding these foreclosed and bank-owned properties that I hear so much about. The courthouse? The bank? Lawyers? Where should I begin, and is the information free? Thank you.

  1. Best way is to contact a real estate agent. Most homes (bank owned) are listed on the MLS. I use har.com (houston area) EDIT: For the poster below me: While "Forecloser" isn't a sellectable serach criteria, most agents in a given area will know about foreclosed listings on the MLS and most of them in the DESCRIPTION say "short sale" or "bank owned" or "as-is" or or or... I wouldn't bother to pay for a service as you're going to need an agent anyway Cody
  2. You cannot identify foreclosed homes on the mls. That is not a searcheable find on any mls service. do not let a real estate agent tell you otherwise. They have no access to information that you do not have. Your best bet is your country clerk or you can use a service such as www.realty-trac.com Find your county's website and see if you can search for sherriff deed's issued during 2009. A foreclosure passes ownership from the borrower to the bank via a sherriff deed. If you can find a list of sherriff deeds issued these would be recent foreclosures. Realty-trac costs money but they have done all the legwork. You will find tracking these down one at a time is not very efficient. Once you find the foreclosure then you can search mls to see if it is for sale. 99% of foreclosures will get listed in mls to sell.
