How can I get free information on a bank owned home I would like to purchase?
I cannot find the bank that owns the property. I have had a realestae agent look into it in the past and they knew which bank and then stopped calling. I hope you can help with this. It is a ranch located in Oakland Maine.

- Call a different realtor. It doesn't cost you anything.
- Contact the county's tax assessor. After ownership changes hands from the buyer who defaulted back to the lender it may take a few weeks to be entered, but this is public information. If they're online you just search by the street address. It won't give you the bank's phone number or any real way to contact them, but if it says SunTrust you might be able to call around and find out the number for their REO dept. Good luck!
- First off, the ownership of a property is public records, and can be obtained at your county offices. Also, if the other Realtor quit calling you, call a different one. Obviously, the first Realtor doesn't need the money, and many other ones out there will enjoy helping you to find the owner of the property, and negotiating on your behalf. I did this for a friend a couple of years ago, and found the Realtor who was going to list the home for the bank before it was listed. We ended up making an offer the minute it came onthe market and snagged it for $50K less than it was foreclosed for 3 months prior. Have fun, and best of luck!
